The College Football Hall of Fame has eggs on its face after the latest round of inductees into the hallowed halls that honor the greatest to have ever played the game.  No slight meant to the deserving inductees that were honored and rightly so.  It is in the omission of Tommie Frazier, one of the greatest to ever play his position that stands out more, more than those great players and coaches that now find themselves honored today by the College Football Hall of Fame. 
 
As his career ended in the Fiesta Bowl of January 1996 many people called Tommie Frazier the greatest collegiate quarterback of all time.  One that finished his career with two consecutive National Championships, 3 time bowl game MVP, consensus First Team All American and one of the greatest leaders of all time.  Outside of all the  statistics, Frazier was just that, a leader.  Never more evident than through the tumult of the 1995 season.  The story is well told and no need to review it.  Lesser teams without the direction, the determination and the force of will of their leader would have folded up the tent.  They didn’t and Frazier didn’t.  If not for the unquestioned steely-eyed leadership of Frazier the 1995 Cornhuskers could have easily become a victim to the distractions that were happening around them.  There was a single-mindedness, an us against the world mentality, that was never more evident than during the Fiesta Bowl shellacking of Steve Spurrier and his Florida Gators.  Noting else exemplified the never quit, don’t give up attitude more so than the 75 yard touchdown that saw Frazier run through the entire Gators defense. 
 
Teams always take on the attitudes of their leaders and Frazier was that from his first snap as a Cornhusker.
 
It is easy to regurgitate statistics but true leadership is found in the end of day results and Fraziers’ speak for themselves.  Leader and winner. 
 
On one hand Tommie Frazier was highly regarded by many as one of, if not, the best collegiate quarterback of all time, yet the place that honors such players doesn’t have a place in their halls for him.  Whether you’re a Nebraska fan or not, a true college football fan should understand the egregiousness of this omission.  The College Football Hall of Fame might as well board up the windows, lock the doors, shut the place down, that is until Tommie Frazier is in his rightful place.
